What Recession!!! 08/10/2011
So the last 3 months have been crazy – I sold over 30 paintings and created 8 custom commission pieces. My customers are law firms and banker from the east coast to Canada. It seems interesting and overwhelming at times keeping up with all this. However, I’ll take the business all day and art lives even in bad economic times. I also spoke to a world renowned Abstract Artist recently and she advised me my prices were 3 times to low. The way it works is raise the price of your work and collector’s will purchase; otherwise you’re limited to the day to day buyer. A collector wants to say “I spent $3000 on this piece”not $500. So, In Sept of this year, I will raise my prices 3x and go for the brass ring. Knowing that a Abstract Artist at the top love my work and is willing to coach me is awesome. So thank you world for a wonderful 3 months and all you artist out there…keep painting and promoting……. Add Comment Post Title. 02/15/2011
So here we are in the year 2011...how strange it seems that time passed so quickly from last year. As for Art – the first 6 weeks of this year has been so busy...and somehow, I created 6 awesome new pieces that are much different in design and color blends than before. I swore this year would be different and I have accomplished it. I do paint with any feelings; I just love to create good work that I would hang in my house. I have other artist friends who are having a great year and the prices of there is $2k to $6k.. I tend to think art has its buyers hiding out there waiting for the perfect formula of design and color…some have tapped into it and I hope this year I find my special source to tap into too. I also have found that even as I paint freely and without thought, my work in some ways resembles other pieces by other artists and for that I apologize. However, I will continue because I never intended on it to be like anyone else. I’m not sure who reads my blogs or cares, but my thoughts are that someone will relate and know what I am talking about. Here we go full force into 2011 without thought or plan…… Art festivals and shows 09/30/2010
So many time I show at galleries I find such a rich group of people searching for a special piece that reminds them of something or a time and place. But I also find many people come for the free food and drinks..you could get frustrated or you can simply enjoy the company. I have been wanting to do some Art festivals but the costs are getting so high and with the current economy, I wonder if I will break even.. The world of art can be such a fulltime job with festivals and gallery shows along with finding time to paint new pieces or experiment with all the ideas I have. Working fulltime, painting fulttime and making it all work far to many artists know this is tough for some. I have met some artist that have quit everything in they're lives to simply paint..but I know I need to build a solid foundation to retire on through investments and other associated activites...but deep down inside, I want to say fuck it and just paint......damn...life has far to many choices... Art Sale! 04/01/2010
Selling your art is an art in itself. For years I have sold my work online. I use my personal website and Yessy.com . I have sold hundreds of pieces amd created a personal client group which always brings me commissioned pieces. However, this week I put on sale all of my art, I want to clear my gallery and to make room for new and exciting pieces that I will be creating. Some are very large and room would be nice. A week ago I posted the sale. It's intresting that I have yet to hear from one customer about a piece on sale. It's seems strange because I have emails everyday or sel a piece once a week..but it's an erie calm. Some people have told me to mark my work up. I want to sell my art not just create and store it. Nothing motivates you more than someone out of the blue picking a piece and buying it. The stories that my customers share with me about how a piece reminds them of something or someone are amazing. So, let's see what happens after the month of April, let's see if putting my art on sale was a good a good idea of not. Enjoy Arpil, it's when the seasons change and the warmth of the sun feels like heaven. Holiday's are here!!! 11/24/2009
Here comes the wonderful holiday season when everyone gets some much needed rest or maybe not. Over the years I have always cooked Thanksgiving dinner and this year I don’t have too. In fact, I don’t’ get many days off, so not cooking will be wonderful. I have 4 paintings in the works now and maybe I can focus on them without the everyday distractions. For most of you, this is a time for family to get together and enjoy good food, conversations and just seeing each other after so much time has passed. Some of you might just take it easy and enjoy the football and down time. Whichever it is, enjoy and my you be as blessed as I. | AuthorI'm a Artist but also a Corporate Guy, Single Dad and busy all the time. I thought painting again would help pay for my son's college and found myself wishing I could only paint fulltime... I was on a 20 year break but started painting in August of 2007...this journey has been awesome and I continue to push until I can no longer. ArchivesOctober 2011 CategoriesAll |
